Die Stra\u00dfe ist entgegen allen Informationen asphaltiert, \u00e4hnelt aber einer Berg- und Talbahn und bringt Unimoppel so richtig in Wallung. Vor 250 bis 199 Millionen Jahren, w\u00e4hrend der Trias, war hier Saurierland. Die Anden waren noch nicht aufgeschoben, so da\u00df der vom Pazifik kommende Regen f\u00fcr \u00fcppige tropische Vegetation und Nahrung sorgte. Die Schichten der Trias liegen hier nicht viele Kilometer tief in der Erde, sondern offen und f\u00fcr das blo\u00dfe Auge erkennbar. Hier entdeckten Pal\u00e4ontologen unter anderem den \u00e4ltesten Dinosaurier der Welt, einen <em>Eoraptor<\/em> mit 228 Millionen Jahren, und auch heute noch gibt es j\u00e4hrlich neue spektakul\u00e4re Funde. Auch die kleinen bi\u00dfw\u00fctigen Freunde mit den spitzen Z\u00e4hnen, die in <em>Jurassic Park<\/em> die K\u00fcche zu einem so ungastlichen Ort machen, finden sich hier in gro\u00dfen Zahlen. Er nimmt uns mit auf eine faszinierende Zeitreise; es geht viele Jahrmillionen in der Erdgeschichte zur\u00fcck. Nur zehn Prozent des 630 Quadratkilometer gro\u00dfen Parks sind f\u00fcr die \u00d6ffentlichkeit zug\u00e4nglich; \u00fcber Sandpiste fahren wir in gut drei Stunden rund vierzig Kilometer. Der backofenhei\u00dfe Wind bl\u00e4st unentwegt und die Felsformationen scheinen in der Hitze zu regelrecht zu gl\u00fchen. An manchen Tagen, wenn der sogenannte <em>zonda<\/em> mit \u00fcber sechzig Grad und hoher Geschwindigkeit von den Anden herab durch die Landschaft fegt, mu\u00df der Park geschlossen werden, weil vor Die Formation <em>Los Rastros<\/em> (= Die Spuren) zeigt anschaulich die verschiedenen Stufen der Evolution: Die sandigen Schichten zeugen von einem immer trockener gewordenen Klima, nachdem die Andenkette von den Erdkr\u00e4ften wie eine Klimabarriere aufgeschoben war; wohingegen die unteren Schichten mit ihren Fossilien und versteinerten Farnen Zeugen der vorangegangenen tropischen Zeit sind.
